To complete the mechanicals I require a window regulator, cable driven, part number is possibly 9221.24, but I'm not positive. I also need the lower tail light lens made by Carello the part number on the lens is 12.724.718.

| Comments: | Greetings from Sydney, Australia. I owned a 1969 404 in the mid eighties and sadly parted with it to raise the funds to travel overseas. Since then I have owned a number of cars, but I always told people that the best car was the 404. I was beginning to sound like a broken record, so I decided to do something about it and get another 404. In November 2000 I found a white 1966 404 for sale in Brisbane (500 miles north of Sydney) and drove it back to Sydney. That drive was sheer magic! I love the 404 with its wonderful steering and ability to cruise at 70 mph.
I have had the rust cut out of the plenum (an expensive job, but necessary to stop water leaking onto the floor at the front), the C3 gearbox replaced with a BA7 and hydraulic clutch, disc brakes and booster, and the engine re-conditioned with new rings and hardened valve seats. Am about to replace the Solex carb with a Weber 32/36. Does anyone out there know anything about the rare Jaeger Coupler semi-automatic transmission available on 403s and 404s up until 1966? It was never sold here in Australia. I would dearly love to get hold of one, or to hear of any experiences driving a Jaeger-equipped car. 404s forever! |

Garaged, virtually rust free, original owner in California put only 60,000 miles on the car. It still has the original radio, original "water tank" blue and wonderful deep teel/blue vinyl seats. One problem is the original head rests are missing. Things on my to do list are to replace the rear left lens, front right chrome headlight moulding, find replacement parts a plenty and hope I find many 404 friends that can help me along the way. Our's is a '68 sedan petrol ivory 135,000 miles. We picked it up in Canberra (Australia) from a diplomat. His father purchased it new in Western Australia and three generations had their way with it before we picked it up. The weather trims are gone, and I've had to do the clutch master, the pump and like all done before we found it. It's our second and are really excited to find pics of Cabrielots and the like. Someone put a simple flow thru exhaust on ours and we thought the note was pretty special till we heard the passing 404 in this site. "It's the same"! The windscreen's stuffed, and we need trim, and if someone could help me understand the clutch arrangement at the head of the pipe, I would be grateful. 24/8/2001 |

We got off the SS United States in LeHarve, and picked up a new dark green 404 wagon with the much vaunted third seat, and huge roof rack (perfect for the canoe). The third seat mitigated the fighting among the children somewhat. Fond memories of careening through Europe. It was a great car. My mother still belives no other car since was as easy to drive or as comfortable.It lasted many years until dying in Lefty's Peugot graveyard in Amherst, MA. Replaced by a 70 404 wagon that didn't last as long, Then a very long run with a 73 BMW 2002 that outlasted all of the aforementioned and then some, then a long run with a 505 sedan. My parents still despair the withdrawal of Peugot from the U.S. |

I want to put an add in hemmings motor news soon with my extra parts, like some sheet metal parts for 404 sedan and c car, plus a 403left rear pannel. Sometimes I am terribly s l o w to respond, but with new medication, anything is ossible. rear brakes, O K, but fronts for 204, 304, 404 and disc are real tough to get or figure out. Most are my cars do not run butI love them. Have experienced engine trouble, of cracked heads after they sit out in the cold neglected for some time. I need advice on cracked heads, how to fiz, if I can double gasket steel head gasket engines because the cutting to get them smooth is beyond regular specs, ect. Am using silicone brake fluid in running 404's and am happy I made the swich..
